Frequently asked questions
How does VeciTu work?
You write what you need. People nearby who have it at home get a message. When you pick an offer, you both get the contact and arrange it directly.
Do I have to sign up?
No. No account, no password. You return to your list and your requests through a personal link we send you.
Do I need Telegram?
No. You choose whether we write to you on Telegram or by e-mail. Both work the same — everything that arrives on Telegram arrives by e-mail too.
We offer Telegram because a message there arrives instantly and does not get lost among your other mail.
Telegram states that more than a billion people use it every month and about half of them open it every day, with around 2.5 million new users joining daily. In Slovakia it is less common than elsewhere, which is why e-mail is an equal choice.
Do I have to advertise the item publicly?
No. Your list of items is private and nobody can see into it.
When someone nearby is looking for your item, VeciTu sends you a message. Only then do you decide whether to respond.
What does “Free to a good home” mean?
You have an item you no longer need and are willing to hand it over for free to whoever comes to collect it. There is no charge for the item itself.
For each item you choose whether you lend it or give it away for collection. You can change this any time.
How far does my request travel?
You choose the radius — 5, 10, 15 or 25 kilometres. It says who we ask first.
It is not a hard edge. If nobody inside responds, the request travels on across the whole of Slovakia, starting with the closest. Nobody is skipped just for living a kilometre further out than you set.
We do it this way because distance is a matter of perspective. If you walk, even 25 km is far; if you drive hundreds of kilometres a day, everything is close. Whether the trip is worth it is your decision, not the app.
We measure the distance between municipalities, not door to door. We do not need your exact address, and we do not ask for it.
What if nobody has the item I am looking for right now?
We do not throw the request away. It stays valid for 90 days.
If the item turns up with someone near you during that time, we let you know.
What if the item is not in the VeciTu catalogue yet?
Write it in your own words. If someone named it with the same words, we will find them even without the catalogue.
If not, the request stays saved, we add the item to the catalogue and send the notification afterwards.
Is VeciTu free?
Yes. During the pilot, VeciTu is completely free.
In the future we plan a fee of 1 € only for a successfully completed connection. During the pilot this fee is waived in full, so today you pay 0 €.
If we launch paid operation, we will say so in advance. Nothing is charged retroactively.
Who will pay the 1 €?
The fee will be paid by the person who successfully received or borrowed an item through VeciTu.
The owner who lends the item pays nothing. With free to a good home the giver pays nothing; the fee is paid by the person who collects the item.
During the pilot, however, everyone pays 0 €.
Do I pay even if we do not reach an agreement?
No. The fee is planned only for a successfully completed connection.
If you do not agree, or the item is never handed over, nothing is paid.
Who sets the price for lending?
The two of you. VeciTu does not set the lending price and does not collect it. You agree and settle the payment directly between yourselves.
Any 1 € fee for a successful connection to VeciTu is separate from that.
Who sees my contact?
Only the person you agree with, and only once you have both confirmed interest. Until then the other side does not see your contact.
We do not publish it and we do not pass it on to anyone else.
How often will you write to me?
Only when someone nearby is looking for an item on your list. At most three times a day.
If you answer “I do not have it” for a particular item, we will not notify you about that item for another 30 days.
How do I get back to my list, and what if I lose the link?
You return to your list through the personal link we send you. It is valid for 90 days from last use.
If you lose it, request a new one at vecitu.sk/odkaz. It goes to the same e-mail address you entered — so only the owner of the list receives it. If you use Telegram, send the bot any message and the link arrives there.
Issuing a new link makes the previous one stop working.
How do I delete my items or my whole profile?
You can remove individual items at any time in My items.
If you want to stop using VeciTu entirely, on the same page you delete your whole profile together with the items and the contact we write to. This cannot be undone.
The requests you made stay in our figures, but with no link to you. Data we are required by law to keep may remain stored for the necessary period.
What if the item breaks or goes missing?
VeciTu only passes on the contact and is not a party to your agreement. You settle the terms directly between yourselves.
So agree in advance what happens if the item is damaged, lost, or not returned on time.
What may not be offered or requested through VeciTu?
In particular weapons, drugs, medicines, stolen items, protected animals and plants, and items you have no right to offer or hand over.
You will find the detailed rules in the terms of service.
Where does VeciTu come from?
VeciTu is a Slovak project.
It was created in Slovakia with the idea of simply connecting people nearby who need something with those who already have it at home and can lend it or give it away for collection.
